11-er Studienfahrt: Unforgettable London – Our School’s Grand Adventure

Discovering London: Our unforgettable school adventure

Imagine stepping off the bus into the heart of London, where centuries-old landmarks stand alongside modern skyscrapers, where diverse cultures create a dynamic atmosphere, and where creativity and innovation know no bounds. Gladly, that’s what our grade got to experience this June. Our long-awaited adventure began with a 17-hour journey by coach and ferry.

Memorable moments

Our trip was packed with incredible experiences that highlighted the best of London. We started with a scenic boat tour along the River Thames, offering us stunning views of iconic landmarks. The next day, a guided bus tour took us to some of London’s most famous sites, including Parliament Square, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Piccadilly Circus and other places which together merely make up 5% of London. Fun Fact: London covers 600 square miles and has a population of 8.6 million. Surprisingly, though, its oldest part, known as the City of London, is merely one square mile in size!

Another highlights was our visit to the Natural History Museum, where we were reminded of how amazing life on earth is. We also had the chance to explore Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, which was influenced by the legacy of the bard himself.

Bright, brighter, Brighton

We departed from London to East Dean for a hike that took us to Eastbourne via Beachy Head. The cliffs along the way were breathtaking. After our hike, we headed to Brighton, a lively coastal town known for its stunning views and vibrant atmosphere. We spent our little time left exploring ‘The Lanes’, where charming streets filled with cute shops and cosy cafés serve delicious treats like scones and tea.

Plenty of free time

…is what you need in a city as big as London. It seemed like no amount of time in the world would be enough to explore all of London. Luckily, our trip was balanced between structured activities and plenty of free time, allowing us to explore the city at our own pace. So we visited the London Eye, explored various art galleries, checked out the city’s arts scene or simply wandered the bustling streets. The real challenge was returning to the hostel on time.

London’s Heartbeat:

Incredibly crowded streets, large squares and confusing maps – finding your way around the city is not that easy. But no worries, really. The people of London would always lend a helping hand. In fact, we’ve never heard more “You’re welcomes” and “Excuse mes” in our lives. Some even went as far as to assist and guide us. Others gave us secret local tips to prevent us from getting stuck at places overrun with tourists. English politeness at its best. And as we wrap up our time in London, we’re filled with great memories. Until next time, London.
